A versatile artist, Barry has worked steadily on stage (both on and off-Broadway), television, and the screen since the 1960s. In addition to acting, he has also written and directed experimental pieces with such New York-based groups as the Living Theater, the New York Shakespeare company, and the Open Theater. Barry began appearing in feature films in the mid-'70s and has been working steadily ever since playing major supporting roles in a number of major films including that of Ron Kovic's father in Born on the Fourth of July (1989), the father of a murder victim in Dead Man Walking, and a crazed, gun-wielding criminal in Headless Body in Topless Bar (1995). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Life and career

Barry was born in Hempstead, New York (on Long Island), the son of B. Constance Barry (née Barbara Duffy), an actress, and Raymond Barry, who worked in sales.[1][2] His mother was born in New York City on April 29, 1913 and had a breakthrough role, after a career of small or cameo appearances in films, in 2001 (at age 88) in the film L.I.E.. In what was to become her last role, she played "Anne Harrigan", the mother of a Long Island pedophile (played by British actor Brian Cox). Raymond was a three letter athlete at Lynbrook High School, Long Island. He graduated from Brown University in 1962.

Before appearing in films he appeared in more than 75 plays. Barry has come to recent fame acting in the movie Interview With the Assassin portraying Walter Ohlinger, a man who claimed to be the second shooter on the Grassy Knoll in the assassination of JFK. Barry is known for his role as Ron Kovic's father in the Academy Award winning film Born on the Fourth of July. His latest claim to fame was playing Pa Cox in Walk Hard, in which he was known for his continuous quote, "The wrong kid died!" His other most notable films include Flubber, The Ref, Dead Man Walking, Cool Runnings, The Tulse Luper Suitcases and Training Day.

Barry appeared as Jack Shephard's grandfather in Lost. He has also appeared as Lilly Rush's father in CBS series Cold Case.
