Plot

Nenene Sumiregawa is an author visiting Hong Kong who needs to hire bodyguards during her public appearances. She calls the Three Sisters Detective company and hires the "Paper Sisters" -- Michelle, Maggie, and Anita -- to do the job, only to discover that the sisters are much more than they appear. During an incident in which they must protect Nenene from an angry author, Nenene notices that the girls are all "Paper Users" -- women with the power to manipulate paper with their minds. They can make paper move, fly, or even become strong enough to serve as a shield against the bullets from a gun. This is the same unique ability that Nenene's long-lost friend Yomiko "The Paper" Readman had. Before Nenene can give it a thought, the sisters have moved into her apartment as three live-in, free-loading bodyguards. Read or Die the TV's reference to Yomiko derives from the previously released R.O.D. OVA, which tells a story of different characters including Yomiko.
