Reading Scientific Services Ltd. (RSSL) is a British company providing scientific analysis,[1] consultancy,[2] product development[3] and training[4][5] to the food, healthcare, pharmaceutical, personal care, cosmetics and consumer goods industries. It has worked in areas such as the detection of contaminants including dioxins, benzene, melamine[6], unauthorised colours such as Sudan[7], undeclared genetically modified organisms, and foreign objects, with an emergency response service for urgent investigations.[8] It also tests pharmaceutical packaging.
The company was formed in 1987 out of Cadbury Schweppes Research and Development. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cadbury.[9] It has been inspected by regulatory authorities including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
RSSL is based at two sites on the Whiteknights Campus of the University of Reading. The headquarters and main laboratories are based at the Reading Science Centre, whilst the training centre and clinical sciences are located at the Science & Technology Centre.[10]
