Reading The Tape

judging the performance of stocks by monitoring changes in price as they are displayed on the Ticker tape. An analyst reads the tape to determine whether a stock is acting strongly or weakly, and therefore is likely to go up or down. An investor reads the tape to determine whether a stock trade is going with or against the flow of market action.
