Readville is a station on the MBTA commuter rail's Franklin Line from Franklin to Boston, Massachusetts and is also the terminus of the MBTA's Fairmount Line commuter rail line. A few Fairmount trains continue onto the Franklin Line. Amtrak's Northeast Corridor service and the MBTA's Providence/Stoughton Line pass through the station but do not stop.

Readville station is bounded by three railroad yards, an MBTA commuter rail maintenance facility and layover yard east of the station, Readville 1-Yard, an active CSX freight yard south of the station and the Readville 5-Yard, west of the station.[1] The 42-acre 5-Yard is split between Boston and Dedham, Massachusetts and was formerly owned and used by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, which had shops on the site until 1958, the Penn Central Railroad, Conrail, and Amtrak. As of 2010, the MBTA owns the yard, uses it to store railroad-related materials and is remediating the site for environmental contamination.[2][3]
