Having been pink-slipped by ABC for taking the title of his nightly talk show Politically Incorrect a bit too literally, comedian/raconteur Bill Maher resurfaced with a similar but far less inhibited chatfest on the HBO cable network. Telecast live in the late Friday-evening hours, Real Time with Bill Maher included the usual topical banter and broadsides exchanged by host Maher and his politically diverse celebrity panelists, with a new feature added to the proceedings in which promising young comedians were given a showcase for their talents. Premiering February 21, 2003, Real Time with Bill Maher was scheduled to air until the debut of On the Record With Bob Costas in May of that same year, with the promise of a return engagement in the summer months. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
