Game Description

Take yourself out to the ballgame with RealSports Baseball for the Atari 5200. The game features three skill levels (novice, intermediate and advanced), all of which can be played by one player, two players or the computer.

You can adjust the running and throwing speed of the players and the batting difficulty. You can play a standard nine-inning game, or you can shorten it to six or three innings. If you're not ready for the big leagues, you can play in practice mode as long as you like.

RealSports Baseball gives you full control over your hitters, runners, and fielders. When at the plate, you can adjust the speed and aim of your swing, and you can even try to lay down a bunt. You can activate individual base runners, steal bases, and perform squeeze plays and hit-and-runs.

When fielding, you can have the computer assist you, or you can handle everything (such as activating players and throwing) yourself. Also, when a play begins, the computer will automatically position outfielders and infielders, but you can reposition them manually if you like.

The pitchers in RealSports Baseball are right-handed. With your help, they are capable of throwing three types of pitches: curve balls, change-ups and fastballs. Each pitch can be thrown low, medium or high and with or without a wind-up. During the wind-up, you can use the joystick to influence speed and path of the pitch.

You can play the game with or without umpire voice effects. If you and a friend or you and the computer are tied at the end of regulation, the game will go into extra innings.

Roots & Influences

RealSports baseball was first available for the Atari 2600 in 1982. It was heavily influenced by the realism of Major League Baseball for the Intellivision.
