Rebelde Way (Rebel's Way) was a Martín Fierro Award—nominated Argentine soap opera produced by Cris Morena. The series ran for two seasons, the final episode airing in Argentina in 2004.
The series is set in the Elite Way School, a prestigious private boarding high school near Buenos Aires. Students at the school are children of some of Argentina's wealthiest citizens, as well as gifted "becados" (students with scholarships). The school's faculty and the parents often have their own subplots as well. One feature of the show is the regular use of English words and phrases by the upper class. In addition to Argentina, the show was transmitted in many countries in addition including Peru, Germany, Israel and Spain.
The series' main plot line revolves around a group of students forming a band. The actors who play the members of this band are also a real-life band, called Erreway. Erreway perform most of the music used on the show, and have been extremely successful in their own right, becoming one of the highest-grossing acts in Argentina and touring internationally.
In 2009, it was confirmed that the American version of Rebelde Way will be made, produced by Jennifer Lopez.[1][2][3]

Erreway
Rebelde Way was extremely popular in Argentina, becoming the highest-rated show on Canal 9 soon after its premiere. The lead stars Luisana Lopilato, Camila Bordonaba, Felipe Colombo and Benjamín Rojas became a regular on magazine covers and in gossip magazines. The four formed a band named Erreway, which reached international stardom with their albums Señales (2002), Tiempo (2003) and Memoria (2004). The released a film in 2004, Erreway: 4 Caminos. In 2005, Lopilato left the band.
They returned as a three-piece band in 2006, consisting of Bordonaba, Colombo and Rojas. They released two compilations of the greatest hits, El Disco de Rebelde Way (2006) and Erreway presenta su caja recopilatoria (2008), and are preparing their fourth studio album, Vuelvo.
They have toured worldwide, including several trips to Israel, where the show has been extremely successful. Erreway has had four very successful tours: Erreway en Grand Rex (2002, series of concerts in Grand Rex, the concert hole in Buenos Aires), Nuestro Tiempo (2003, worldwide tour), Gira 2004 (2004, worldwide tour) and Erreway en España (2008, series of concerts in Spanish cities).
Worldwide syndication
Rebelde Way was also syndicated in Germany and Austria, where it aired on Nickelodeon Germany, and in Austria. It was aired in Romania on TVR2 (2003/2004); in the Republic of Macedonia on A1 Television (2003/04) ;in Bosnia and Herzegovina on OBN (2006/07); in Greece on ET1 (2006/07); in Cyprus on ANT (2006/07); in Serbia on B92 (2007), and in the Croatia on Extra TV (2008). It was also aired in Kosovo and Albania (2005-2006) on KTV, Spain, Portugal, Panama, Colombia, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia (2005-2006) on Rustavi 2, and Lithuania (LNK/TV1 in 2007-2008).
The soap aired its original run twice on Tele Antillas in Dominican Republic (March 2003 - September/October 2004 and December 2005 - February 2007) both at different time slots (the original run Weeknights at 7pm and the rerun Weekdays at 3pm and then in January 2006 moved to Weekdays at 2pm). In Peru it created a phenomenon being extremely popular on channel 2, Frencuencia Latina. When the Mexican version of the show, Rebelde aired, Rebelde Way reaired on the same channel.
Rebelde Way was also syndicated in the Philippines via TV5 (renamed simply as Rebelde, not to be confused with the Mexican remake also known as Rebelde) beginning August 11, 2008, dubbed in Tagalog. However, the opening and closing song used by TV5 is "Tu Amor" performed by the Mexican Rebelde's group RBD.
International remakes
The basic plot and situation of Rebelde Way was also remade for various countries around the world. In each version the plot was the same and centered around a student musical group performing within the telenovela.
Rebelde
Rebelde was the Mexican remake of the show, initially aired in Mexico on Televisa. Although the school retained the same name, the band around whom the show's storyline revolved was renamed RBD. Rebelde was also internationally successful, and has been shown in Mexico, the United States, Brazil, and other Latin American countries. It was one of the most successful and most popular novela's in Televisa history. It lasted three seasons (440 episodes) and aired from 2004-2006. The band RBD was also extremely successful, releasing more than five albums, and touring Mexico, United States, Brazil, Chile, Europe, and Asia. The band announced their split in 2009.[4]
Remix
Remix was the Indian remake of the show, initially aired in India on STAR One. For this version the band was renamed Remix, and the school was renamed Maurya High. The show began on 1 November 2004 with the launch of the channel STAR One.
Rebelde Way
In 2008, a version of Rebelde Way, named exactly the same, was done in Portugal, by the channel SIC. The show started in September. A second season was announced, but then canceled.
Corazón Rebelde
Corazón Rebelde is the Chilean remake of the show that aired from August 2009 on Canal 13 with the name of S.O.S. and Corazón Rebelde as the slogan. Two weeks after from the released of the show the name was changed to its previous slogan. It has had a good reception since it was released.
2009 American version
In 2009, it was confirmed that the American version of Rebelde Way will be made, produced by Jennifer Lopez.[1][2][3] The series is expected to be broadcasted by Fox Television Studios.[5] The part of the producing team will be Duane Adler (Save the Last Dance and Step Up).[3]
Versions that were not done
In 2003, TVE, the Spanish public broadcaster, bought the rights to adapt the show. It did not go into production because of disagreements between the executives and Cris Morena Group. Also in 2003, Destiny, an independent company in Brazil, bought the rights and produced a pilot but it wasn't picked up by any network.
