TV Series:

Red Gold: The Epic Story of Blood

  • Director: Alexander Marengo
  • Release Year: 2002

Plot

Based on Douglas Starr's best-selling book Blood: An Epic History of Medicine and Commerce, this four-episode PBS series (presented in two two-hour installments) chronicled the facts and fallacies about the human blood system. The first episode, "Magic to Medicine," detailed the sometimes mythical role that blood has assumed in popular culture, literature, and religion. Subsequent programs included "Blood and War" (about the beginnings of the Red Cross blood drives), "Tainted Blood" (from toxins to AIDS), and "New Blood" (research developments since 1978). Red Gold: The Epic Story of Blood first aired on June 23, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
