Red Mango is a frozen yogurt chain founded in South Korea in 2002. The company, which has stores in Korea, United States, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and South Africa, is known for its tart frozen yogurt. Red Mango's frozen yogurt is offered in limited flavors, such as Original and Green Tea. In November 2008, Red Mango launched its first new flavor, Pomegranate by POM Wonderful, which resulted from the company's partnership with the POM Wonderful company. In May 2009, Red Mango launched its second new flavor, TANGOMONIUM, which according to the company's website, was invented by President & CEO Daniel J. Kim.

History in the United States

Red Mango opened its first store in the United States in July 2007 in Los Angeles, California (Westwood Village near UCLA). The company's first store in Washington State opened in October 2007 in Bellevue Square. The company currently has over 55 locations, and according to USA Today, will soon be expanding at a rate of a few stores per month.[1] Red Mango opened its first store in the San Francisco Bay Area in Palo Alto, CA.[2]

Yul Kwon, winner of a season of the Survivor reality series, recently opened a Red Mango in Silicon Valley in downtown Palo Alto, and in Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose.

The company, which currently has US offices in Sherman Oaks, California, Dallas, Texas and New York, New York, raised $12 million in private equity financing in August 2008 and moved its headquarters from Sherman Oaks, CA to Dallas, TX in early May 2009. [3]

In 2009, Red Mango closed four stores around Los Angeles due to "poor real estate decisions" but will open about 40 news locations elsewhere across the country. [4]

Management

Daniel J. Kim is the president and CEO of Red Mango. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business and is an alumnus of the university's prestigious Delta Sigma Pi, Rho Chapter. He is a former investment banker.

The company's investors and advisors include John Antioco (former CEO and Chairman of Blockbuster Inc.), Dallas-based private equity firm CIC Partners, movie producer John Davis who is the son of Marvin Davis, movie producer Roy Lee, and Stone Canyon Venture Partners.
