Review

Roth has generated a considerable amount of attention over the past few years, sometimes appearing controversial, at other times almost seeming to be part of the new age/new spiritual mainstream (though this latter suggestion might cause serious agitation on her part). Refuge, produced in collaboration with Russian vocalist Boris Grebenshikov, embraces standard forms and steps beyond them, thanks to Grebenshikov's resounding baritone. The album is dedicated to Tibet, with income from the album being donated to Tibetan support groups. A beautiful piece of work with a wonderful spiritual glow at its heart. ~ Steven McDonald, All Music Guide
