1. Manufacturer or sales-promotion strategy that promises to refund part of the retail sales price to the consumer upon receipt of proof of purchase; also called rebate offer. Although the purpose of the refund is to motivate buyers, the sellers assume most buyers will not go to the trouble of requesting a refund.
