The rejection of something to which a person is entitled, such as the rejection of goods under a contract, e.g., U.C.C. §2-601.

The denial of an obligation to perform a legal duty such as the refusal to complete a contract. 163 A. 2d 803, 806.

A refusal may be an affirmative act, or it may be the mere failure or neglect to perform an act that one is obligated to do without a demand therefore, such as the payment of money. 248 N.W. 261, 266; 72 Mass. 224, 225.

Denial of something desired; as an elderly maiden's hand in marriage, to a rich and handsome suitor; a valuable franchise to a rich corporation, by an alderman; absolution to an impenitent king, by a priest, and so forth. Refusals are graded in a descending scale of finality thus: the refusal absolute, the refusal condition, the refusal tentative and the refusal feminine. The last is called by some casuists the refusal assentive.
