Oil and gas explorer Regal Petroleum is looking for royalties and more as it explores for and produces oil and natural gas in eastern Europe and North Africa. It operates in Egypt, Romania, and Ukraine, with more than 70% of its reserves in Ukraine. Local oil player Chernihivnaftogasgeolgia (CNGG) legally challenged the validity of Regal's two production licenses in Ukraine. Regal Petroleum survived the legal challenges until May 2010 when the Ukrainian Ministry of Environmental Protection ordered the company to suspend its Ukraine operations, citing noncompliance with local regulations.
