[Italian dialectal, a contention, regatta, from regattare, to contend, perhaps from recatare, to sell again, compete, from Vulgar Latin *recaptāre, to contend : Latin re-, re- + Latin captāre, to seek to catch, frequentative of capere, to seize; see catch.]
A high-end Unix-based pSeries server from IBM. Introduced in 2001, the model p690 brought self healing and partitioning to the pSeries (RS/6000). It also inaugurated IBM's POWER4 chip known as "Spinnaker," which contained two 1 GHz processors. The copper-based silicon on insulator (SOI) POWER4 chips provided increased performance with less power than previous POWER chips.
