Review
Sure, the cover smacks of tropical ghetto chic, sporting as it does a strange mix of blaxploitation, soca-sexual, and Day-Glo elements, but while the music within ranges as far and wide -- from ska and rocksteady to early reggae -- the quality is consistently excellent. Save for the unit-shifting likes of "007 (Shanty Town)" and Tony Tribe's original reggae version of Neil Diamond's "Red, Red Wine," the disc spotlights Jamaican and English chart-toppers like Ken Boothe's "Everything I Own," Harry J.'s "The Liquidator," and the Heptones' "Hypocrite." There are also fine contributions by the Techniques, Dave and Ansel Collins, the Maytals, and Nicky Thomas. A nicely put together collection, perfect for vintage reggae fans. ~ Stephen Cook, All Music GuideTracks
