Islam is the majority religion in the United Arab Emirates. Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Sikhism are also practiced in the country, mostly by non-nationals.[1]

There are more Sunnite than Shiite Muslims among the residents. The country has Shariah and other courts. [1] Waqfa, Eid al-Adha, the Islamic New Year, Mawlid, Lailat al Miraj, and Eid al-Fitr are national holidays. [1] Maliki Shariah applies in cases of divorce.[1] Polygamy is legal (up to four wives are allowed per man).[1] Conversion from Islam to another religion is not permitted.[1]
Protestantism in the United Arab Emirates and Roman Catholicism in the United Arab Emirates form significant proportions of the Christian minority. The country has at least 33 churches.[1] The schools in public ownership have no Christian religious education.[2] Many Christians in the United Arab Emirates are of Asian origin.[3]
