Yes it is a valid command.. You can also use "ren" instead of "rename"..

ren stands for rename. It is used to rename a file in MSDOS.

Syntax :

ren old_filename new_filename

if you want to rename a file with name ABC to XYZ you'll follow the following syntex:

ren ABC XYZ

Execute the following Command in command prompt

1. To change extn of all the files in a folder

ren *.* *.

2. To change entn of a specific file

ren filname.* *.

we may use << ( redirection) operator it will append the data of file........

ren c:\test.txt test2.txt

Results: file in drive c:\ will be renamed to test2.txt
