Three major hospitals serve Reno, including Washoe Medical Center, recipient of the 2002 American Alliance of Healthcare Providers "Facility of Choice" that features a cardiac rehabilitation center, a trauma center, and has more than 500 beds; the 380-bed St. Mary's Regional Medical Center; and Northern Nevada Medical Center. The hospitals provide 24-hour emergency room facilities and various specialized treatment programs. The medical community consists of about 800 physicians and approximately 3,000 registered and licensed practical nurses. Other health-related facilities include the University of Nevada School of Medicine.
