Mignonette family
Resedaceae

Re-zee'da. A genus of 50-60 species of erect or reclining herbs, sometimes woody at the base, from the Mediterranean region. A few species are cultivated.

Description
Leaves alternate or clustered, simple or divided pinnately in some species. Flowers small, in long spikes, and composed of 4-7 petals.

How to Grow
Plant outdoors in early spring and again in late summer to prolong period of bloom. They need enriched soil and sun to partial shade. Thin seedlings since plants are difficult to transplant. The species below prefer cool weather.

Reseda alba
White Mignonette . To 3 ft. (90 cm) high. Flowers in. (13 mm) wide, in clusters, greenish white, with 5-6 sepals and petals. Mediterranean region. Hardy annual.

Reseda lutea
Wild Mignonette . To 30 in. (75 cm) high. Flowers ƈ in. (6 mm) wide, greenish yellow, in clusters, usually with 6 sepals and petals. Mediterranean region. Biennial grown as a hardy annual.

Reseda odorata
Common Mignonette . To 1 ft. (30 cm) high. Flowers ⅓ in. (8 mm) wide, yellowish, in terminal clusters or spikes, petals 4-7. Mediterranean region and the Red Sea. Grown for its sweet fragrance. Hardy annual.
