part of a two-component signal transduction system. Response regulators of bacterial sensory transduction systems generally comprise a receiver module domain covalently linked to an effector domains. In the presence of an effector molecule, a histidine sensor kinasephosphorylates an aspartate residue in the receiver module. Effector domains include DNA binding and/or catalytic units that are regulated by phosphorylation of the receiver module.
