Though the production is flat, Upshot are move effectively through breezy jazz-pop grooves. A combination of Mackie Snee's flute and the airy mix on Brendan Wyatt's drums make the disc sound lighter than it probably should. Upshot himself delivers gruff vocals that shift between chanting and rapping before giving way to almost light-punk choruses (such as on "Lipps"). Mostly, the band needs a harder groove to sustain Upshot's vocals. Riadh Quadir's spacey guitar parts fall a little too heavily on the wah-wah pedal. Lyrically, Upshot shifts between precise urban imagery (on the verses) and sweet, idyllic hippie imagery (on the choruses). The band does well not committing to either idea. It might serve them better if they did. Upshot's acoustic guitar hovers in the mix as well, though it is mixed far too warmly for the situation, only adding to the feeling that the band is treading musical water. ~ Jesse Jarnow, All Music Guide
