(of an enzyme or other system) a type of inhibition that occurs when the equilibrium between free inhibitor and the inhibitor—enzyme (or system) complex lies sufficiently far towards the free inhibitor state for the inhibitor to be readily removed, leaving an active enzyme (or system).
