Rhodri Owen (born 1972 in Three Crosses, Gower, Swansea) is a Welsh born and speaking television presenter.
Biography
Owen was brought up in Gower, Swansea[1] in a Welsh language speaking family, which is his first language. Owen was also a member of the National Youth Theatre of Wales[2] with his brother Geraint, who as an actor and Plaid Cymru councillor, who went up for the part of James Bond against Daniel Craig[3].
Owen started his career in radio reporting in his native Welsh language for Radio Cymru. After taking over the Saturday breakfast show, Owen transferred to the daily Red Dragon FM breakfast show. Having presented for BBC Radio 5 Live, Owen is presently "the voice" of BBC Radio Wales.
Owen started his television career with S4C appearing on a variety of programmes from children's
presentation to weekly magazine shows including "Noc Noc" and Uned 5. After six years with the
Welsh channel he moved to London and joined CBBC,
fronting children's consumer show "Short Change." He went on to appear in the BBC Wales
investigative consumer show "X-Ray" and was also the host of 4x4, BBC Three's "Liquid Assets,"
the BBC's "Holiday" program and then three years on the rival
Owen is currently hosting "Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns" for Living TV[5] and continues to present BAFTA award winning "X-Ray" for BBC Wales. In 2006 Owen had his first book published: "Bwyd bwyd bwyd (food food food)" - about healthy foods aimed at children. Owen also had his first show commissioned: "Paparazzi" will be a glossy magazine style programme[6].
Personal life
Owen married ITV Wales news presenter Lucy Owen in June 2004 at St Andrew's Church in St Andrews Major near Dinas Powys[7]. The couple live in both Cardiff and London.
Having described himself as a "keen car enthusiast who spends his spare time rallying"[8], Owen was accused by South Wales Police of careless driving and using threatening words and behaviour on 9 January, 2006[9].
