Rhys Griffiths (born March 1 1980) is a Welsh semi-professional footballer, currently playing for Llanelli while also working as a firefighter. He has represented the Welsh semi-professional national side. He plays a physical game, tending to dominate defenders both in the air and on the ground. Most of his goals come from his aerial dominance but he also has a subtle touch and incisive passing ability
Griffiths first played Welsh Premier League football for Cwmbran Town in the 2001-2002 season after finishing his studies at UWIC. Early the following season he moved to Haverfordwest County, moving again to Carmarthen Town in July 2004.[1] In December that year he joined Port Talbot Town.[2] In the 2005-06 season he scored 28 league goals for Port Talbot, earning the Welsh Golden Boot for leading goalscorer and a place in the Welsh semi-professional side.
In the 2006 close season Griffiths moved to Llanelli[3] and was again the leading goalscorer in the Welsh Premier with 30 goals in the 2006-07 season.
In December 2006, Griffiths was linked with a move to Football League Two side Wrexham,[4] but chose to remain semi-professional with Llanelli.
