Review

Liquid Space's Rhythm Culture, Part 1 is a decent if nondescript double-disc mix of early-'00s techno and progressive trance presented by DJs Embargo!, Weichei, and Lawless. The material ranges from the ethereal and hypnotic to the ominous and grinding, but it's all obviously geared toward the dancefloor. On the first disc, Embargo! spins a set of productions that come from around the globe, including the harsh battering of DJ Transformer's "Ecstasy" and Tribal Warriors' bone-rattling "M.I.K.E." Weichei and Lawless team up on the German-centric second disc, with Timo Maas' "To Get Down" and Krystal's "Unpredictable" (it's anything but) sticking out most prominently. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
