Ric Lansing (full name Richard Lansing) is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital. The character has been played by soap opera veteran Rick Hearst, since 2002. In 2004, Hearst won a Daytime Emmy Award as "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series" for the role, at the 31st Daytime Emmy Awards.[1]
He is the son of Trevor Lansing and Adela Corinthos. He is the half-brother of Sonny Corinthos. He tries to extract revenge on Sonny and his best friend, Jason Morgan, regularly because of his jealousy.
History
Background
Before Ric was born, his father, Trevor, had an affair with Sonny's mother, Adela. Adela ended up getting pregnant, and Trevor sent her and Sonny to live in his vacation home located in Martha's Vineyard to prevent from his wife finding out about Adela. While pregnant, Adela accidentally fell down the stairs. Later, Trevor told Ric Sonny had done it because of jealousy. After Ric was born, Trevor tried to make her put Sonny up for adoption, but instead she left with only Sonny. Because of this, Ric blames Sonny for not being having his mother in his life.
Revenge on Jason and Sonny
A year after he arrived in Port Charles, he revealed to Sonny that he was actually his half-brother. He now wants to get revenge on both Sonny and Jason, who is Sonny's closest friend.
Ric and Elizabeth Webber wed in 2003, but later divorced. When they got married again, Elizabeth became pregnant with Ric's baby, but was pushed down the stairs by Ric's former lover, Faith Rosco, thus suffering a miscarriage. However, assuming wrongly that Sonny was the one who pushed Elizabeth down the stairs, he took his revenge out on Sonny's close friend and lover, Carly Corinthos, while Carly was pregnant with her son, Morgan. He kidnapped Carly and put her in a panic room. Elizabeth found Carly soon after--and divorced Ric once again because of his lies and obsession with revenge against Sonny.
However, the next time Carly was kidnapped--this time by Lorenzo Alcazar--Ric decided to help Sonny and Jason find her. He even managed to get closer to Sonny and eventually became his lawyer. This was all in an effort to take over Sonny's business because of his revenge.
One night, Ric met Jason and insulted Jason's girlfriend, Sam McCall. Upon hearing this, Jason almost beat him to death until Sonny stopped him. Ric was planning on pressing charges, but Jason left the country. He even took advantage of Sam and slept with her while she was drunk and upset about her breakup with Jason.
Since then, Jason was charged with Lorenzo Alcazar's murder. Ric tried his hardest to get Jason stuck in jail for life--putting Sonny's business in danger. Luckily for Jason and Sonny, Carly and Jerry Jacks found evidence that freed Jason. He even tried to put Sonny's girlfriend, Kate Howard, in jail for six months for his revenge scheme, but Ric's father came to Port Charles and erased the charges.
