Ricardo Fernandes, (born April 21, 1978 in Portugal), is a Portuguese football midfielder who plays for APOEL. He is 174cm tall and weighs 65Kg. His former clubs include: Académica Coimbra, FC Porto, Sporting Lisboa, Gil Vicente FC, CD Santa Clara, SC Freamunde.
After a number of impressive performances for Gil Vicente FC Ricardo was transfered to Sporting Lisboa where he was hailed as one of Portugal's brightest young prospects. After only 1 season with Sporting, Ricardo was signed by Jose Mourinho to become a key member of his FC Porto side who famously won the UEFA Champions League and Portugese League title.
After a spell with Académica Coimbra Ricardo was signed on a lucrative 3 year deal to APOEL in Cyprus. In his first season at the club Ricardo became an instant crowd hero with his surging runs, deadly set pieces and creative passing scoring 9 times with an incredible 30 assists. In his second season Ricardo scored 13 goals as he helped APOEL to the League Title.
As of August 2007 Ricardo has been linked wih a move to England with a number of clubs keeping tabs on the left footed midfielder.
