Richard Andrews (? – October 28, 1835) is notable because he was the first rebel killed during the Texas Revolution.
Biography
Andrews, an Indian fighter, joined the Texan army at the beginning of the Texas Revolution. Richard Andrews was nicknamed "Big Dick" because of his large size and great strength. He was wounded in the battle of Gonzales on October 2, 1835. He fought at the Battle of Concepción. He was the only Texan killed in the Battle of Concepción on October 28, 1835.
Andrews County, Texas, and its county seat, Andrews, Texas, were named for him.
