Richard Armstrong is an author. He was the winner of the Carnegie medal in 1948 for his book "Sea Change".He wrote a biography called 'Grace Darling;Maid and Myth' published by JM Dent London 1965. He is described on the cover as 'author and mariner'. In British Library Catalogues his dates are given as 1903 - .According to the Wee Web the authors and illustrators archive he was born in Northumberland, 18th June 1903 and died in 1986.

He wrote a novel published by J M Dent & Sons Ltd called "Sailor's Luck" in 1959, dedictaed to his son John. This lists his other adult novels as "The Northern Maid" and "Passage Home". He also wrote children's stories as follows, "The Mystery of Obadiah" "Sabotage at the Forge" "Sea Change" "The Whinstone Drift" "Danger Rock" "The Lost Ship" "No Time for Tankers" and "Waderlust".
