Richard Belcastro

Richard Belcastro (Richard Thomas Belcastro b. Camarillo, California, February 12, 1976) is a Philadelphia based American composer. Belcastro studied composition at the University of California, Davis and at Brandeis University where he received his MFA in music composition at the age of 24. His principal teachers include Ross Bauer, Eric Chasalow, Andrew Frank, Pablo Ortiz, David Rakowski & Jay Riese (at the University of Pennsylvania).

His music has received awards & honors from The Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music (ASCAP/SEAMUS), The Musical Fund of Philadelphia, New Sounds Music, & The Meet the Composer Fund.

He is currently the Executive Director of Chamber Music Now! [1], a new music concert series which he co-founded in 2001 with fellow Philadelphia composer David Laganella, and the Assistant Director of Education and Community Partnerships for the Philadelphia Orchestra.
