Richard Blahut

Richard Blahut is the chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign best known for his work in information theory (e.g. the Arimoto-Blahut algorithm used in rate distortion theory), and also his textbook on coding theory. There, he is also the Henryk Magnuski Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is affiliated with the Coordinated Science Laboratory. He won the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal in 1998, and the Claude E. Shannon Award in 2005.
