He is currently David Ricardo Professor of Political Economy at UCL, Research Director at IFS, in 2006 he was President of the Econometric Society. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society (1991), Fellow of the British Academy (1996), Honorary Member of the American Economic Association (2001), Honorary Member American Academy of Arts and Science (2002) and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (2003). He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the University of St.Gallen, Switzerland in 2003.
He received his Master degree in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from LSE in 1975. He received his BSc in Economics and Statistics (1st Class Honours) from University of Bristol in 1973. He has published six books and various articles on Econometrics, Consumer Behaviour, Public Economics, labour economics and pensions.
