Biography

A founding member of N.Y.C.'s electronic music scene, Richard Bone started his career by writing music for off-Broadway theatre productions (using homemade processors), and has worked with neo-legendaries Lenny Kaye and Reeves Gabrels. In 1980, he joined Shox Lumania, but soon went solo and released a string of singles on Chrysalis Records. He has produced singles for Rubber Rodeo, composed original music for award-winning cable and broadcast television, and has been involved in the music video production of his own work released on the experimental Sony in the early '80s. His intriguing, ambient works continued into the '90s, culminating with 1999's Coxa, which featured a jazzy atmosphere. Many of his releases were put out by his own Quirkworks label. ~ Will Grega, All Music Guide

Richard Bone (born February 3, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American electronic musician.

Biography

Bone began his early musical career creating soundtracks and scores for several off-Broadway companies working in experimental theater. In 1979 he released the single "Pirate the Islands/Headlines Have It" before joining the band Shox Lumania in 1981. That same year Bone recorded a solo 7" called "Digital Days/Alien Girl" on his own that was picked up by Survival Records in the UK. While with Survival he released two LPs, four EPs, two 45s and composed several singles for various compilation albums. In 1983 his single "Joy of Radiation" reached #1 on the Hong Kong Dance Chart.[1]

In 1991 Bone started Quirkworks Laboratory Discs, allowing him the freedom to create music of a more experimental nature and remain in control of his musical direction. The next fifteen years would see Bone release twenty recordings of all new material, a compilation of previous Quirkworks releases, a CD of alternate and previously unreleased tracks, co-produce and contribute musically to Mary Zema's Songs of Early Paradise as well as contributing tracks to numerous compilations and other projects. Of the new material recordings, three quickly rose to the #1 placement on industry charts as well as receiving numerous other honors.[2][3][4] In 2004 Bone's recording The Reality Temples was nominated for the 2004 New Age Reporter Lifestyle Music Awards' Best Electronic Album[5] and his 2005 recording Saiyuji was nominated for the 2005 New Age Reporter Lifestyle Music Awards' Best Ambient Album. [6]

In March 2007 Bone released Via Poetica, a collaboration with poet/vocalist Lisa Indish and Experiments '80-'82, a limited edition CD of selected tracks from his work from 1980 to 1982. Bone has also completed a new rhythmic recording entitled Infinite Plastic Creation that released September 10th of this year. Other projects for the future include a new video project in progress titled Short Waves - 20 Brief Excursions in Surreal Video and an in-depth biographical book devoted to Bone's life and musical career compiled by a British author.
