Richard Buckle |
Buckle, Richard (b Warcop, 6 Aug. 1916). British dance writer and critic. Dance critic of the Observer from 1948 to 1955 and of the Sunday Times (1959-75). He was founder of the influential magazine Ballet (1939-52). He organized the Diaghilev exhibition in Edinburgh in 1954, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the impresario's death. Author of Adventures of a Ballet Critic (London, 1953), In Search of Diaghilev (London, 1955), Modern Ballet Design (London, 1955), Nijinsky (London, 1971), Diaghilev (London, 1979) and Buckle at the Ballet (London, 1980).
