Richard Foerster (born October 29, 1949) is an award-winning American poet, who currently serves as editor of Chautauqua Literary Journal and was a long-time editor at Chelsea. He received a B.A. in English Literature from Fordham College and an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Virginia.

Foerster's works have appeared in Poetry, The Nation, The New England Review, Prairie Schooner, TriQuarterly, The Kenyon Review, Shenandoah, The Southern Review, among many others.

Served on the staff of Chelsea magazine beginning in 1978; became editor in 1994 and served in that position until 2001. Currently, Richard Foerster is the editor of the Chautauqua Literary Journal.

He divides his time between York, Maine and Aventura, Florida.
