1. Australia (New South Wales): named in 1789 after Charles Lennox (1764–1819), 4th Duke of Richmond and Lennox, later governor-general of British North America (1818–19).
2. Canada (Ontario and Quebec): named after the 4th Duke of Richmond and Lennox.
3. New Zealand (South Island): named after the Richmond in Greater London.
4. South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal): founded in 1850 as Beaulieu, it was renamed after the 4th Duke of Richmond and Lennox.
5. South Africa (Northern Cape): founded in 1844 and named after the 4th Duke of Richmond and Lennox, father-in-law of Sir Peregrine Maitland (1777–1854), governor of Cape Colony (1844–7).

UK (Greater London/England): formerly called Sceon and Sheen 'Shelters', it was renamed Richemount in 1502 by Henry VII (1457–1509), King of England (1485–1509), when he rebuilt a palace which had been burnt down in 1501. He chose this name because before becoming king he had been the Earl of Richmond, after the town in Yorkshire. The full name of this town is Richmond upon Thames.
7. UK (Yorkshire/England): formerly Richemund, the name means 'Strong Hill' from the Old French riche and mont.
8. USA (Indiana): settled in 1806 as Smithville and renamed in 1818, allegedly because of the rich character of the soil.
9. USA (Kentucky): settled in 1784 and named after the city in Virginia.
10. USA (Virginia): originally a trading post established in 1637, it was named by William Byrd after his home town, Richmond in Greater London, in 1733; additionally, he may have thought that the Virginian town on the James River resembled the Richmond on the River Thames.
