Richview Collegiate Institute
Richview Collegiate Institute is a secondary school in Etobicoke, a suburb in the west end of Toronto, Ontario. It is in the Toronto District School Board.
The school was founded in 1958. Richview’s Latin motto, "Monumentum Aere Perennius" means "a monument more lasting than bronze". Its traditional rival is the Etobicoke Collegiate Institute "Rams" to the south. Martingrove Collegiate, who are located just down the street on Eglinton, Avenue, are another rival school. Richview's current Principal is Kim Robinson (currently having spinal surgery), and the two Vice Principals are Joanne Zimny and Donna Drummond. The school is known for its excellent academic courses and about one-third of the students are enrolled in the extensive French Immersion programme. Approximately 90 percent of students pursue post-secondary education
Students
As of spring, 2006, the total enrollment was 960 — 520 females and 440 males.
Extracurricular activities
Richview's sports teams are called the Saints and the school colours are scarlet and gold. School teams compete in badminton, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country running, football, golf, ice hockey, curling, skiing, slo-pitch, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field, archery and volleyball.
Richview is best known for its Football team, the only team to win the West Division title since its creation. Richview is currently back to back Toronto Bowl Champions and has lost in the Metrobowl Semi-Finals twice.
Richview also has an elite power cheerleading team, which cheers at football games, and compete at a national level throughout the year. The highly trained girls are currently looking for a staff supervisor for the 07-08 season.
The Baseball team also had an excellent season in 2006. Coming off an 0-8 season in 2005, the team went 1-5 in the regular season. However, in the playoffs, they played exceptional baseball and beat highly rated Etobicoke and Silverthorn to win the West division title because of P John Fitzpatrick's dominance and LF Andrew Hyde's clutch Hitting.
Along with these came an exceptional soccer season in 2006. Richview normally is one of the low-ranked teams in this sport, but managed to lose only one game all season, with Kenji Takeda scoring 14 goals. They went on to be the West Region champions, but lost a well-played game in the semi finals. Had they won, they would've made it to the TDSB finals.
Both Richview Basketball teams (Junior and Senior) had troubles in 2007 . The senior team finished the year with only 2 wins due to the numerous injuries they suffered and the junior team had a strong finish finishing 3-6 (having won 3 of their last 4), coming from a team which only had 3 rookies. The junior basketball team is also looking for a staff supervisor for the 07-08 season.
Students may also participate in: Beginner, Intermediate, or Senior Band, Stage Band, Junior Orchestra/Symphony, Senior Strings, Choir, Charity Week Activities, Fashion Show, Volleyball, Tennis, Swimming, Soccer, Cross Country, Track & Field, Athletic Council, Student Council as well as various activities in the dramatic arts such as short plays, the SEARS Drama Festival Production and the Improv Team.
Student newspaper
As of 2006, Richview Collegiate currently has two school newspapers. The Richview Epiphany is the official school newspaper, which is published on an annual basis. The recently resurrected Richview Rave is an unofficial school newspaper run by students, which is published on a quarterly basis. [citation needed]
