Ridgemark is a census-designated place (CDP) located adjacent to the southeastern edge of Hollister in San Benito County, California, United States. The community is a private, gated golf development with two golf courses and just over 1,000 homes. Development of the community began in the early 1970s[1], and the population had reached 2,741 at the time of the 2000 United States Census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.7 square miles (7.0 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 2,741 people, 1,110 households, and 863 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,018.9 people per square mile (393.4/km²). There were 1,159 housing units at an average density of 430.8/sq mi (166.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 89.75% White, 0.66% African American, 0.80% Native American, 2.33% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.96% from other races, and 3.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.15% of the population.

There were 1,110 households out of which 24.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.4% were married couples living together, 4.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.78.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 33.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $79,057, and the median income for a family was $87,743. Males had a median income of $69,219 versus $38,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $36,966. About 2.2% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.2% of those under age 18 and 2.7% of those age 65 or over.

Politics

In the state legislature Ridgemark is located in the 12th Senate District, represented by Republican Jeff Denham, and in the 28th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Anna M. Caballero. Federally, Ridgemark is located in California's 17th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of D +17[4] and is represented by Democrat Sam Farr.
