Barbadian recording artist Rihanna has released six studio albums, three compilation albums, forty official singles, three charity singles, one promotional single and eight other appearances. In 2005 Rihanna signed a record deal with Def Jam Recordings to launch her career. Rihanna has sold more than 25 million albums and 60 million singles worldwide since the beginning of her career, which makes her one of the best selling artists of all time.[1] She has released four Recording Industry Association of America certified platinum and multi-platinum albums in the United States. Rihanna has attained eleven number-one songs on the Billboard Hot 100, making her just the seventh artist to earn this plateu in the 53-year history of the chart.[2] Billboard named Rihanna the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade, and ranked her as the seventeenth artist of the same decade.[3][4]
She made her chart debut in June 2005 with "Pon de Replay", which reached the top-five position in over ten countries worldwide. It was followed by the release of her debut studio album, Music of the Sun, which peaked in the top-ten on the Canadian Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Rihanna's second studio album A Girl like Me was released on April 19, 2006. It spawned four singles: chart-toppers "SOS" and "Unfaithful", as well as "We Ride" and "Break It Off"; the later featured Jamaican rapper Sean Paul. "SOS" became Rihanna's first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a platinum RIAA certification. In May 2007, Rihanna released her third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200, eventually being certified two-times platinum in the United States and quintuple platinum in the United Kingdom. The album's lead single "Umbrella" which featured American rapper Jay-Z became massive commercial success, peaking at number-one in more than ten countries, including topping the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks.[5] The album spawned seven more singles including the international hits—"Don't Stop the Music", Take a Bow" and "Disturbia". As of July 2010, the digital tracks from the album have sold a combined total of more than 17 million units in United States.[6] In 2008 and 2009, Rihanna lent her vocals on some guest singles including "Live Your Life" with T.I., and "Run This Town" with Jay-Z and Kanye West.
Rihanna's fourth studio effort, Rated R, was released in November 2009. Five singles were released from the album, including the commercial success "Rude Boy", which topped the Australian Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 for five straight weeks.[7] In 2010, Rihanna collaborated with American rapper Eminem on "Love the Way You Lie"; the song was commercial success, reaching the top-spot in more than twenty countries worldwide. In the United States it was certified quintuple platinum for shipping more than 5 million digital copies. A year later, in November 2010, Rihanna released her fifth studio album Loud. The album earned Rihanna platinum certification in the United States and sextuple platinum in the United Kingdom. It spawned seven singles including the commercially successful hits, "Only Girl (In the World)", "S&M" and "What's My Name?" which featured Canadian rapper Drake. On November 18, 2011, Rihanna released her sixth studio album Talk That Talk. The album's lead single "We Found Love" featured British DJ Calvin Harris who also produced the song. It became a major worldwide success, topping the charts in more than twenty countries including the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed at number-one for ten weeks, becoming her longest-running number-one of her career in the country.[8]
