Ballet in one act with choreography by Ashton, music by Lambert, and design by Burra. Premiered 29 Nov. 1931 by the Camargo Society at the Savoy Theatre, London, with Lopokova, Gore, Markova, and Chappell. It is set in a Southern port and its action (described by Beaumont as ‘an orgy of sailors and their doxies’) is loosely based on Sacheverell Sitwell's poem of the same title. It was revived for the Vic-Wells Ballet in 1935, when Fonteyn was cast as the Creole Girl, her first significant role.
