You aren't seeing double. Rio Tinto plc, one of the world's largest mining operations (along with BHP Billiton and Vale), is the British half of dual-listed companies. Its Australian counterpart is Rio Tinto Limited, with headquarters in Melbourne. The two companies trade on separate stock exchanges but run the business as one entity. That entity mines gold, diamonds, iron, copper, uranium, and industrial minerals (borax and salt). Its Rio Tinto Alcan subsidiary makes aluminum products, while Kennecott Minerals and Kennecott Utah Copper mine gold and silver and copper, respectively. Most of Rio Tinto's operations are in North America and Australia, but it is expanding its operations in China and Mongolia.
