Rituals

Ballet in one act with choreography by MacMillan, music by Bartók, and design by Sonneband. Premiered 11 Dec. 1975 by the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, London, with Drew, Eagling, S. Beagley, Derman, Rencher, Seymour, and Mason. This setting of Bartók's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion is inspired by the highly ritualized nature of Japanese ceremonial life.
