River Raid II continues the fast-paced shooting action of the 1982 original while adding new features such as varying altitude (the original only featured left and right movement), flying over oceans and firing torpedoes. Now instead of shooting enemy helicopters and planes, you'll also get to bomb destroyers, tanks, buildings, landing strips and water towers in your mission to destroy the enemy bridge.
Once you complete this objective, you'll then have to land your F-14 assault jet on an aircraft carrier using the radar and altimeter at the bottom of the screen. Successfully land on the carrier and the game will end, although you can elect to continue on a more difficult mission by pressing the button.
Besides blasting as many enemies as you can for points, you'll also need to replenish fuel or you'll lose one of your three planes. This involves either flying over gold buoys in the river or jets across the ocean. Difficulty switches allow for unguided or guided missiles, meaning your shots can be steered by the joystick.
