(b The Hague, 23 Sept 1948). Dutch painter and draughtsman. He studied at the Koninklijke Academie and Vrije Academie in The Hague and at the Ateliers 63 in Haarlem between 1968 and 1972. At first he made drawings and knitted objects; he did not paint his first pictures until 1971. From 1972 until 1978 he restricted himself to the same technique, moving the brush over the canvas in straight bands either from left to right or from bottom to top so that the oil or ink ran from thick to thin.
