Biography

Robby Grant is a man who doesn't stop. He's constantly involved with music, whether playing with a band or recording at home on his four-track. The Memphis resident was guitarist/singer for Big Ass Truck from 1992-2001. During Big Ass Truck's downtime from touring and recording their third album, Grant began writing songs for himself and recording them on a four-track in his home. While on tour, Grant left a copy of the recorded demos with Yep Roc's Tor Hansen when he stayed at Hansen's house, in whose basement Yep Roc was located at the time. The result was Unleavened Bread, which Yep Roc released in 1997. Since the run of Big Ass Truck officially came to an end, Grant has focused his time, energy, and musical efforts on two projects -- Vending Machine and Mouserocket. Grant describes Vending Machine as "basically a refinement" of what he started with Unleavened Bread -- what is mostly a solo, self-released project. Grant released three albums in 2000 as Vending Machine, all of which appeared on his own Chocolate Guitar Records. A new Vending Machine record is expected to drop in early 2007. Grant started playing with Memphis indie rockers Mouserocket in 2002 and the group expects to release its sophomore album on Seattle's Empty Records in early 2007. ~ Megan Frye, All Music Guide
