(b c 1490; d after 1546). Scottish composer. His works are in the ‘Scone Antiphonary’, which may have belonged to the Scottish Chapel Royal. They combine elements of the English decorative style and the Flemish style of Josquin and Isaac. His earliest composition may be the ten-part festal mass Dum sacrum mysterium, possibly written for the coronation of James V in 1513. The other four surviving masses include the only setting based on L′homme armé by a British composer. He wrote two motets for five and 19 voices, the latter illustrating British composers fondness for full sonorities.
