Biography

Robert Horton is an Australian bassist who recorded and performed with the Hawthorn Band in 1994, the same year the group mounted a loud and blaring American tour. This is a brass band, so that is a suitable description. Even more important is the date, as it indicates what era of Hawthorn Band this is, seeing as a tradition of ensembles bearing this name has been documented down under dating back to fife and drum groups in 1870. There is no argument that the early groups did not share all the same aspects of the 1994 repertoire, such as a cover version of the "Batman Theme." This artist should not be confused with more well-known performers with the same name, including the star of the Shenandoah television show. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
