(1877-1961), born Burwood, Sydney, was a dog owner from the age of 6 and became during his life an expert on Australian dogs, including the dingo. In 1893 he began improving the blue heeler strain of cattle dog; he also established breeding standards for the kelpie and barb varieties of sheepdog. Under various pseudonyms, including 'Falder', he wrote articles on dogs, other animals and rural topics for the Sydney Mail, Sydney Morning Herald, Bulletin and Bookfellow. Some of his articles and stories appeared in book form as Australian Barkers and Biters (1914). He also compiled The Australian Settler's Complete Guide (1909).
