( b Rotherham, 4 March 1776; d London, 13 June 1855). English cellist. From 1794 to 1846 he was principal cellist at the Italian Opera in London and at all the major concerts, sharing a desk with his friend Dragonetti. He was noted for his outstanding technique and elaborate accompaniment of recitative.
